CVT Cellular Voice Transmitter

What is the CVT?

Weather data is broadcast by voice over standard voice cellular channels and the CVT can be used with Quick Deploy (portable) stations or permanently installed weather stations. The CVT provides easy access to weather data, and anyone with a touch-tone telephone can call the station for instant on-the-spot voice reports of current conditions providing they know the DTMF code.

The CVT voice unit is compatible with the FWS-12S datalogger and can be used simultaneously with another communication method such as GOES, data radio or standard phone modem.

The transmitter is housed in an O-ring sealed, cast aluminum case for maximum protection of the electronics and easy maintenance.

CVT Features

  • The CVT is a fully programmable Cellular Voice Transmitter.
  • The system is supplied with a pre-recorded vocabulary in either English or Spanish that can be assembled into verbal reports as required by the user.
  • The system allows you to assign your own DTMF tones to trigger each unique voice report.
  • Reports and DTMF tones can be pre-configured by FTS as per customer requirements.
  • Weather data can be accessed by anyone with a touch-tone telephone.
  • The system can be configured to dial out and issue Voice Alerts at times of extreme weather conditions.
  • No reprogramming is required in event of power failures.

Diagnostics & Operating Status

The front panel LED status lights give clear confirmation of operating status with indicators for Power and Transmitting.

The CVT can be supplied pre-programmed and will not lose its programming or touch-tone assignments when moved between deployments or in the event of a power failure.

Supplied with a built-in GSM wireless modem, the CVT includes a rugged, UV resistant antenna and operates on the dual-band 850/1900 or 900/1800 MHz GSM/GPRS frequency.

Voice Reports & Phrases

The CVT Cellular Voice Transmitter in combination with the FWS-12S datalogger provides verbal reports of weather conditions by keying DTMF tones on a touch-tone telephone.

The CVT comes with a library of pre-recorded vocabulary which are assembled into verbal reports triggered by assignable DTMF tones.

Creating Reports

Creating reports using the existing vocabulary list is done using the standard Hyperterminal program provided with Microsoft Windows™ operating platforms. Alert messages are developed using the same program. FTS supplies a Hyperterminal configuration file to support communication with the CVT.

The vocabulary has been designed specifically for weather applications. Adding to the vocabulary can be done by qualified service shops or the FTS factory.

Alert Messages

The CVT Transmitter is able to send out voice Alerts when weather conditions exceed predetermined values. Alerts can be generated for any conditions measured by the datalogger such as changes in temperature, humidity or wind.

Examples of alert messages which can be created:

“Alert Alert humidity two two percent”

“Alert wind speed four five miles per hour”

Examples of voice reports which can be created:

“Current weather conditions wind speed ten miles per hour, wind direction nine four degrees, humidity three two percent, temperature eight zero degrees, rain point zero two inches”

“Temperature eight six degrees fahrenheit”

“Battery voltage one two point zero volts”

“Air temperature nine eight degrees”

“Peak wind speed five five miles per hour”

“Wind speed two two miles per hour; wind direction three six degrees”
