Fuel Stick Sensor
The FTS fuel stick uses precision temperature and humidity sensors to measure the internal temperature and humidity of a wooden dowel. These measurements are used to model the moisture content and temperature of forest debris and fuel in the immediate vicinity of the weather station.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
- Replaces traditional wooden dowels, eliminating the requirement to manually weigh wooden sticks in the field
- Digital electronics improve calibration precision and increase stability
- Replaceable dowel with simple screw fit
- Armored stainless steel cable for durability and rodent protection
- Bayonet connector for fast and easy connection to the data logger
This sensor provides wildland and forest management professionals with a tool for modeling the humidity of naturally occurring fuel, a vital indicator of fire danger and behavior. Fuel sticks are commonly deployed on-site near prescribed burn and wildfire operations. The dowel is manufactured from clear kiln dried ponderosa pine, hollowed with a machine ream to ensure repeatability between sensors. Exposed to the elements, the FS-3 acts to integrate the varying effects of direct sunshine, wind, rain, air temperature and humidity over a period of time.
FTS Model Number: FS-3 (includes 12′ armored cable and milspec connector)
